The seasons

Cool & dry (Nov–Feb) is the headline season — warm days, low humidity, sea breezes, the best beach weather. Hot (Mar–May) brings high heat and the Songkran water festival in April. Green/rainy (Jun–Oct) means short, heavy afternoon downpours, lush surroundings, far fewer crowds and the lowest prices — often a smart-value time to go.

Festivals worth timing

Songkran (Thai New Year, mid-April) turns the city into a giant water fight — chaotic and brilliant. Loy Krathong (November) sees floating lanterns on the water. Both are special if your dates line up.
