Getting around Pattaya

By Tim Paemi · Updated 27 June 2026 · No sponsors, no paid placements

Pattaya has no train or metro, but getting around is easy and cheap once you know the system. Here's how locals actually move — from the 10-baht shared trucks to ride apps, scooters and airport runs.

Baht-buses — the local way

The blue shared pickups (songthaews) loop the main Beach Road / Second Road circuit all day. Flag one, hop in the back, and press the buzzer when you want off — then pay the driver, usually 10–20 baht for a standard ride. Don't ask the price for normal routes (just pay the standard); only negotiate if you're hiring one privately to go off-route.

Grab & Bolt — no haggling

Both ride apps work well in Pattaya for cars and motorbikes, with the fare shown up front — the easiest, most transparent option, especially at night or in the rain.

Scooters & cars

A rented scooter (~200–300 baht/day) is the cheapest freedom, but you need a valid licence/IDP and a helmet, and there are real scam traps around deposits and "damage." Rent from a checked shop and document everything.

To & from the airports

From Suvarnabhumi (BKK) it's a ~1.5–2 hour drive — by scheduled bus (e.g. Bell Travel), shared minivan, or a pre-booked private car. U-Tapao (UTP), south of the city, is only ~40 minutes away. Full Bangkok ↔ Pattaya routes →
