Central Pattaya: the beating heart

By Tim Paemi · Updated 27 June 2026 · No sponsors, no paid placements

This is Pattaya at full volume — the dense, walkable core where the beach, the shopping, the dining and the nightlife all sit within a few blocks. If you want to be in the thick of it, Central is your address; if you want calm, it's a short hop away.

The short version

The lay of the land

Beach Road runs the seafront; Second Road behind it is shops and hotels; Soi Buakhao is the cheaper-accommodation and beer-bar belt; Walking Street at the south end is the famous nightlife strip; and Central Festival is the big beachfront mall. Everything is walkable, which is the whole appeal — and the source of the noise.

Who Central suits

It's the best base for a short, lively trip — you can walk to the beach, dinner, the mall and the bars. It suits action-seekers and the social crowd. Families and quiet-lovers usually base in Jomtien or Naklua and visit Central for the buzz.

Staying & living here

Central has the widest range of hotels and short-stay condos at every price, and you trade quiet for unbeatable convenience. Long-term, most settled expats prefer the calmer areas, but central living means never needing transport. For numbers, see the cost guide.
