Pattaya for families: yes, really

By Tim Paemi · Updated 27 June 2026 · No sponsors, no paid placements

Pattaya's reputation scares families off — and it shouldn't. Base yourself in the right area and it's one of Thailand's easiest, most affordable family destinations, whether you're visiting for a week or moving with kids. Here's how.

The short version

Family attractions

There's a lot for kids: Ramayana and Cartoon Network Amazone waterparks (two of Asia's biggest), Nong Nooch Tropical Garden with elephant and cultural shows, Underwater World aquarium, Art in Paradise 3D museum, and the Koh Larn island day trip for clear-water beaches. Easily a week of family days out.

Where to stay with kids

Jomtien is the family base — a long, calm beach lined with family-friendly condos and resorts, a short hop from the action but well away from it. Pratumnak and Naklua are also quiet and family-suited. The one rule: don't book in Central Pattaya next to the nightlife.

Living here with children

If you're relocating, Pattaya has a solid range of international schools (British, IB and bilingual), excellent affordable private healthcare, and you can bring the family pet too. Many families make the move precisely for the lifestyle-to-cost ratio.

Is it safe for kids?

Yes, with the obvious common sense. Stay in family areas, take normal beach and road precautions (Thailand's traffic warrants care), and you'll find Pattaya relaxed and welcoming for children. If anything goes wrong, the private hospitals are first-rate.
